Torrevieja is situated on the coast at the Southern end of the Costa Blanca. It is surrounded by two large and beautiful natural salt lakes which form the renowned ''Salinas de Torrevieja''.
Lying 50km from the International Airport of El Altet (Alicante), approximately a 40 minute drive away, and 40km from Murcia (San Javier) International Airport again aproximately a 40 minute drive away.
Torrevieja is the fastest growing area in Spain and although promoted by the tourist office as a tourist centre, it is still predominantly a residential town made up of villas and apartments with very few hotels which tends to keep out the ''Benidorm Brigade'' of drunken British yobs especially in the summer months
The Torrevieja open-air market, which is held on Friday, is said to be the biggest in Spain and after you have walked around it you will believe it!
In fact there is a market every day in the surrounding areas below.

The town is also an important fishing port and as you would expect boasts a vast number of fish restaurants.
There are five main beaches in Torrevieja. At the southern end of town the beaches of Orihuela Costa extend down to the Mar Menor La Manga. To the north of the town the many long beaches extend to Guardamar, La Marina and Santa Pola.
If you hire a car you can find your own exclusive beach except in the most popular month of August when the Spaniards usually take a month's holiday and the beaches become more busy.
No month is without its ''Fiestas'' - in Spain no opportunity is overlooked for a party. Indeed every day has a Patron Saint so every day, somewhere in Spain, is a ''Fiesta Day''.

Torrevieja has a very good municipal bus service to all parts of the area. The town is well served with regular bus services from most urbanisations to the beaches, town centre and markets every day.
There is a newly built fantastically equipped sports centre with an olympic sized pool and just next door to Carrefour the huge hypermarket is the ''Centro Commercial Habeneras'' a brand new fully enclosed and air-conditioned, out of town retail centre with lots of famous brand name outlets
