Perched on the hillside above the friendly village of Montriond which is linked to Morzine, Chalet Étoile Filante (Chalet Shooting Star) has magnificent views of the Morzine valley and being south-facing, it benefits from day-long sunshine. It is perfectly located to give our guests a head start to the Ardent ski-lift which gives swift access to Avoriaz and some of the best skiing in the Porte du Soleil. The chalet sleeps 14 people in 7 ensuite bedrooms with all the necessaries to create a luxury ski holiday for all of our guests - you even get the added luxury of Molton Brown in your room. We have also had a luxurious outdoor hottub and in-chalet bar installed.
It has been designed with every comfort and style in mind by renowned local chalet builders, Grosset-Janin, and comprises seven en-suite twin/double bedrooms, three on the ground floor and four on the top floor. Two of the ground floor rooms would be ideally suited for families, as they are set apart from the third room. Also on the ground floor is a ski and boot room with entrance for guests leaving for and returning from skiing, and separate toilet for use of all guests.
On the middle floor guests are welcomed in a roomy and cosy porch area, where they can remove outdoor clothing in comfort before entering the chalet. A hall leads to the large L-shaped lounge which has seating for all the guests in comfortable sofas and armchairs surrounding the open fireplace, with fabulous views from the full length sliding glass doors which lead onto the balcony. In one corner is your very own fully stocked bar with a wide range of specialist Whiskies, Champagne and Wines. There is also further seating with Sky TV video/DVD for the enjoyment of guests.
Breakfast and delicious evening meals are served in the dining room, which seats fourteen comfortably. Full length sliding glass doors can be opened to let in fresh air on warmer days and access to the large balcony and garden for al fresco dining and barbecues in fine spring weather.
On the top floor there are four en-suite bedrooms all of which can be twins or doubles. Each has ample wardrobe space, a spacious bathroom with power shower and heated towel rail, and the front rooms have doors leading to a balcony looking down the valley.
The chalet is finished to a very high standard, with under-floor heating on the ground and first levels. The top floor is carpeted and heated by convection heaters for maximum warmth. Soft furnishings throughout have been hand-picked by our interior decorator for a cosy and stylish finish. There is ample hot water from two large boilers and heaters in each bedroom. Details such as plenty of plug points throughout, telephone sockets in every bedroom to make possible internet access, and wireless internet access add the final touches.
The outside of the chalet is as beautiful as the inside, with thoughtfully designed woodwork and masonry.

The beautiful starski chalet is situated on the sunny south facing side of Montriond which is linked to Morzine. Our private in-resort minibus service will whisk you over to Morzine and pick you up should you wish for a big night out, but we think you'll enjoy relaxing in our outdoor hot tub with a drink from our own bar just as much.
Montriond and Morzine are picturesque towns, and are situated in the French Alpine region of the Haute-Savoie. Unlike many ski resorts, Montriond and Morzine retains all the charm and culture of the farming towns they once where making them the perfect place to take your ski holidays and snowboard holidays.
The chalet is perfectly situated for easy access to the Ardent express bubble which takes you directly up to Lindarets where the ski schools meet and you have easy access to the rest of the Portes du Soleil ski area.
Portes du Soleil Ski Area
The Portes Du Soleil, or Gateway to the Sun, is the largest linked ski area in the world, and is made up of 14 French and Swiss resorts in the Alps. It boasts some 650 km of piste in the winter and needs to be skied to be believed. To take full advantage of the Portes du Soleil we offer a Free Guiding Service for those staying with us.
Climbing from 1000 to 2466m, between France and Switzerland, its 208 ski lifts will take you up to the 8 snowparks, 243km of cross country tracks and 650km of marked pistes that interconnect the 14 resorts ... all accessible with a single ski pass! Even though parts of the ski area sit at a moderate altitude, it's northern situation (the most Northern in France) means that it often gets better snow than most other French resorts which are much higher. This factor along with the abundance of North facing slopes, means the snow lasts well into May!
Depending on your ski-level, mood, the weather, the time available, the possibilities are infinite and a week is not enough to get to know every hidden corner.You can choose a route for its exceptional views over Mont Blanc (Chamossière, Mont- Chéry...) or lake Geneva (Super Châtel, Torgon), ski on the Swiss side in order to examine the Dents du Midi from every angle; or opt for a day trying out new culinary treats by ensuring that gastronomic addresses are on your route.

Ski-ing
Take your time... 650 km of slopes, an enormous French-Swiss area, all this requires an instruction manual. Check out the discovery circuit guide. Circuits (that take 2h 30 mins approx) organised according to ski levels have been designed to give you easy access. You'll recognise the itineries (blue runs, red or black). Each circuit is marked by a mountain animal. Head off following the bear, white rabbit, jackdaw, ibex or reindeer and enjoy the show, it's worth the effort!
Snowboarding
The Portes de Soleil was the first area to recognise Snowboarding as a proper winter sport and put in one of the first parks in Europe. Since then it has gone out of its way to provide some of the best parks around and produce some of the worlds best riders who frequent them.
The off-piste throughout the area offers inumerable opportunities to get fresh tracks even after days of no snow.
For the snowboarders, there are 9 snowboard parks, each of them offering something different, and kitted with jumps for all standards. There is also a couple of half-pipes and a beginners park.

With the Portes Du Soleil being the largest linked ski resort in the world, it is very easy to miss out on skiing some of the best areas if you have not been here before. As part of your holiday, we offer three days of guiding to show you the good spots for skiing and the great restaurants for lunch, so that you can fully appreciate the size and beauty of the Portes Du Soleil.
There is something for everyone, and we’ll make sure that you get to the places, so that you can get the most out of your winter ski or snowboard holiday when staying with starskichalets.
Please Note: As a general rule, ski guiding is only available to guests of an intermediate standard and above - please see the Ski School page for details of lessons for beginners. To comply with French regulations, ski guiding does not form part of your holiday, but is provided as a totally free service. We may withdraw the service at any time. The guiding service is only available to guests staying in our catered chalets.

To avoid queuing we can purchase your lift passes in advance (Payment due with balance). The new Hands Free pass allows you to go through the gates without having to insert your pass, just keep it in your pocket!!! You can keep the card and re-charge it whenever you return
